Frequently Asked Questions About Windows
Retrofit Windows
Q: Does the brick or siding have to be removed to replace windows?
A: In most situations they do not, because we use replacement-type windows designed to be installed through the frame. Replacement windows are custom-made to fit the opening so you have no extra framing, sheetrock, brick or siding to change in most situations.

Q: Does my security system cause a problem?
A: The contacts can usually be removed and reinstalled by our installer with no additional charges incurred by the security system provider.

Q: Who installs the windows I buy from you?
A: At Quarles Windows we have found that the best way to control the quality of work on a retrofit application is by using our own employees. We hire and fully train all installers to follow the different window manufacturers' installation instructions. Our installers are experienced in all phases of window manufacturers' replacement and new construction.

Q: What is the advantage of using vinyl windows?
A: Products like CertainTeed vinyl windows give the beauty of wood with lower cost and maintenance. Vinyl is a stable material that does not conduct heat and transfer cold the way aluminum does. Q: Why should I buy a clad wood window?
A: Cladding a wood window lets you have the warmth and comfort of wood windows without all the exterior maintenance of primed wood. The cladding protects the window from the elements that may damage or rot the window. Cladding comes in various colors to enhance the design of your project.

Q: Do you install new construction windows and doors?

A: Quarles Window Center has a factory-trained service department to handle most warranty issues as well as any other problems that may arise with your windows or doors.

Q: What is the R-value of your windows?
A: Windows and any form of glazing are rated differently than wall or solid structures. They are rated on U-value, which is the inverse of R-value. U-value measures the amount of heat flow through a piece of glass or window. The lower the value the better the insulating quality is.
